It's a good thing Oklahoma’s Republican-controlled Legislature came up with a few hundred million dollars in (ahem) "revenue enhancements" last year, because it would have been a pity to see this position go unfilled.

According to a current job listing advertised on HigherEdJobs.com, “Gender and Women's Studies at Oklahoma State University seeks graduate student applicants for a Dissertation Fellow/Lecturer in Gender Studies for the academic year 2011-12. Expected teaching load includes 2 core courses (Feminist Theories and Introduction to Gender Studies or Transnational Women's Studies) and 2 topics classes in the candidate's area of expertise. Gender and Women's Studies at Oklahoma State University is a small program devoted to expanding horizons for women, GLBTQ [Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered, or Questioning] individuals, and people of color in Oklahoma. … Women and minority candidates are especially encouraged to apply. … Oklahoma State University is an AA/EEO/E-Verify employer committed to diversity.”

With any luck at all, maybe one of the students’ assigned readings will be about “Mike Aki and his husband, a Massachusetts couple [who] planned on having two children. But their two surrogate mothers in India each became pregnant with twins. At 12 weeks into the pregnancies, Mr. Aki and his husband decided to abort two of the fetuses, one from each woman.”

But not to worry, you fusty Oklahoma taxpayers who are footing the bill for all this “higher education.” Lest you fear there's any moral confusion at Oklahoma’s institutions of higher learning, the ad hastens to assure you that "OSU-Stillwater is a tobacco-free campus.”
