OKLAHOMA CITY (January 26, 2026)—Today, Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs (OCPA) President Jonathan Small issued the following statement regarding news that proponents of State Question 836 have submitted signatures to place the measure on Oklahoma’s statewide ballot:
“Led by a group from New York City, a multimillion-dollar campaign utilizing out-of-state signature gatherers is attempting to put a question on the ballot to impose California’s chaotic jungle-primary election system here in Oklahoma,” Small said. “In response, a statewide grassroots movement has risen up, with individual Oklahomans educating their friends and neighbors about how State Question 836 is the opposite of what its proponents claim and would, in fact, limit voters’ choices and throw Oklahoma elections into chaos. Over the next few weeks, signatures for the proposal will receive the scrutiny warranted when a change to Oklahoma’s Constitution is proposed. To our fellow Oklahomans: Please remain vigilant and continue sharing the truth about this dangerous scheme.”
