Take Action: Path to Zero Income Tax!
Lawmakers at the Oklahoma Capitol are on the doorstep of locking in the Path to Zero State Income Tax.
You read that right.
House Bill 1539 locks in a gradual phaseout of Oklahoma’s personal income tax over several years—utilizing revenue growth triggers to end our state’s “penalty on work” without raising other taxes.
As of last week, HB 1539 has overwhelmingly passed both the state House of Representatives and state Senate. All that remains is a procedural vote in the House to send the bill to Gov. Stitt’s desk for his signature.
Until this year, no state in the continental U.S. had ever locked in a path to zero income tax. Last month, Mississippi became the first.
More states are moving toward zero. Arkansas, Louisiana, and Kansas have either lowered income tax rates below Oklahoma’s 4.75% or locked in plans to get there.
It’s time for Oklahoma to stop putting a financial penalty on the labor of hardworking families and small businesses. It’s time to lock in the path to zero income tax in Oklahoma.
