OCPA legal center files appeal against Oklahoma Board of Nursing

This week, the OCPA Center for Law & Liberty filed an appeal on behalf of an Oklahoma nurse practitioner against the Oklahoma Board of Nursing.
Last year, the Board accused our client of working outside her scope of practice. The allegation, which was absurd on its face, was not the result of any patients who were harmed; there was no harm. Instead, the Oklahoma Health Care Authority, which doesn’t license nurses, complained to the Board.
For far too long, Oklahoma agencies, boards, and commissions have put roadblocks in the path of work and productivity. And once someone has jumped through the hoops to get a license to work, these bureaucrats use their power to impose fines on workers for technical violations and use broad grants of power to invent violations where they don’t exist.

Ryan Haynie serves as the Vice President for Legal Affairs for the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs. Prior to joining OCPA, he practiced law in Oklahoma City. His work included representing the criminally accused in state and federal courts. Ryan is active in the Federalist Society, serving as the Programming Director for the Oklahoma City Lawyer’s Chapter. He holds a B.B.A. from the University of Oklahoma and a J.D. from the University of Oklahoma College of Law. He and his wife, Jaclyn, live in Oklahoma City with their three children.
