Legislator wants to nix peculiar tax credit

State Rep. James Lockhart (D-Heavener) wants to nix one of Oklahoma's numerous tax credits. According to a House press release, "In Oklahoma statutes is a provision that anyone who has had a new boat or boat motor stolen within 90 days of purchase may receive a tax credit in the amount of the fee for registration which was paid to the state." Says Rep. Lockhart, "I’m not sure how this obscure issue managed to make its way into law."

At least one lobbyist and one legislator could answer that question for him. Meanwhile, if anyone can offer a plausible defense for this tax credit, I would be interested to hear it.
