OCPA comments on State Question 801

After Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin issued an election proclamation that places State Question 801 on the November ballot, Jonathan Small, president of the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs (OCPA), made the following statement:
“State Question 801 would break down some of the funding silos in education, giving local school districts more control over their own spending decisions.
“Currently, some education tax dollars are restricted to capital expenses, primarily buildings. This measure removes that restriction and allows those dollars to be used either for buildings or general operational expenses, like teacher pay, classroom supplies, or whatever a district needs most.”
