This week in government waste

After an apparent year-long search, Oklahoma State University last month filled the nonsensical position of "vice president of institutional diversity." This pointless waste of taxpayer dollars will "empower...OSU to think and act in ways that will embrace and promote a more inclusive world," said OSU President Burns Hargis in a statement announcing the hiring. So who was the lucky hire? OSU Political Science Professor Jason Kirksey, the same guy who had been warming the seat as interim vice president of institutional diversity since April 2009.

Apparently promoting diversity is a big job, as Kirksey got a hefty raise about the time he was named interim last year. According to Oklahoma OpenBooks, Kirksey received a pay raise in April 2009 from roughly $66,000 annually to $76,000 annually and an even bigger raise in November 2009 to more than $102,000 annually. Kirksey joined the faculty at OSU in 1995. So after 15 years on the job the guy suddenly deserves a 55 percent pay raise in a span of seven months?

In case you are wondering, the University of Oklahoma also squanders your tax dollars on "diversity" programs. Brandon Brooks, director of OU's Diversity Enrichment Program, enriches diversity to the tune of $70,000 each year. - See more at: http://afternoon-plains-9177.herokuapp.com/articles/599#sthash.7SzT5LB3.dpufAfter an apparent year-long search, Oklahoma State University last month filled the nonsensical position of "vice president of institutional diversity."
