Take Action
Ask your legislators to support reading reforms and pass HB 4420 & SB 1271
If a child cannot read by the end of 3rd grade, every subject becomes harder.
Today, 77% of Oklahoma 4th graders are not reading at grade level. That has to change.
HB 4420 by Speaker Hilbert and SB 1271 by Senator Bergstrom include proven reforms focused on:
- Early intervention for struggling readers
- Phonics-trained reading coaches
- Ensuring students are prepared before advancing from 3rd to 4th grade
Mississippi implemented these reforms and dramatically improved reading outcomes. Oklahoma can do the same.
These policies are about setting children and families up for lifelong success and strengthening the future of our state.
Please contact your state legislators and urge them to do whatever it takes to pass HB 4420 and SB 1271 this year.
