Call your state House member and ask them to repeal the JNC
On Tuesday, April 16, SJR 34—which would put a question on the statewide ballot to repeal Oklahoma’s liberal Judicial Nominating Commission and replace it with the U.S. Constitution’s process for picking Supreme Court justices—failed a vote of the full state House of Representatives. SJR 34 may be dead for this year, but the issue of JNC repeal is not. Oklahoma’s legislative rules allow for the House Speaker and the Senate Pro Tem to jointly file a new bill at any time during the legislative session.
This year’s session isn’t scheduled to end until Friday, May 31st.
If reforming Oklahoma’s Supreme Court is a priority for you, please use this easy action tool to call your House member at the state Capitol.
Tell them to ask Oklahoma House Speaker Charles McCall to file a new bill with the language from SJR 34.
Calling between Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm, is best. But calling after hours or on the weekend is great, too.
If you get voicemail, please leave a message. Tell them your are a constituent, and ask for a callback. Thank you!
